HOW TO CHOOSE THE PERFECT END TABLE
End tables are an essential component of any living space! They are functional and add a lot of beauty and interest to our rooms. Do you understand the distinctions between end tables, side tables, and even nightstands? Here's some additional information and ideas about fabulous end tables!
End tables can be used to add style to a living room or family room. It's important to consider an end table's function, but it's also important to consider its beauty and how it reflects your personal style.
Today, let’s talk about using end tables next to sofas and chairs.
End tables come in a variety of sizes, styles, materials, and designs.
Using the same end table on each side of a sofa creates order and symmetry in a room.
However, side tables do not have to match. In fact, adding a few different tables can provide a room with much needed contrast and interest.
I'll be sharing some really beautiful side tables while we talk about important things to know about side tables! Any of these would be wonderful additions to our home!
Any table can be considered a side table if it follows a few simple rules.
End tables and side tables are interchangeable terms. They are both the same thing. But here's an interesting fact: nightstands can also be used as end tables. When looking for an end table, don't forget to look at nightstands as well. They are ideal as end tables.
Let's go over some general guidelines for selecting the ideal end table...
HIGHT MATTERS
Yes, height does matter.
A side table's average height is about 24 inches. There are, however, many outliers!
End tables work best when they are placed about an inch or two or three below the arm of a sofa or chair.
Getting the right height is a piece of cake. Simply measure from the floor to the top of a sofa or chair's arm and subtract one to three inches for the ideal side table height.
This rule is not required, but it will make your living space more comfortable.
I break this rule far more often than I follow it. However, do as I say rather than as I do! You will be happier as a result!
END TABLE IDEAS AND WIDTH
When choosing an end table, consider its width. Consider the space available for a side table when determining the width of an end table.
If space is limited, it is critical to measure and leave some breathing room on each side of the side table. A couple of inches on each side is sufficient.
If space is not an issue, you have a lot more options. Keep in mind that you don't have to take up the entire space on the side of a sofa or chair.
Choose a side table that complements the rest of the room.
Consider what your table's surface will be used for.
Will it support a lamp? A side table at least 22′′ wide is recommended for a standard-size lamp.
Having a general idea of how you will use a side table before purchasing one simplifies the selection process!
OTHER THINGS TO CONSIDER
Here are a few more things to think about when selecting the ideal end table for your space.
- Do you intend to keep items in or on a side table? Then it may require a drawer.
- Will you use it to stack books or anything else? Consider getting a side table with a shelf.
- If you intend to use it to hold drinks and food, glass, marble, or another stone is a good choice.
- Is there enough space for a side table? Stacking tables are an excellent way to increase usable space.
DESIGNER TIPS THAT WILL MAKE YOUR END TABLES SHINE
- Do you want to incorporate metal into your decor? Side tables are ideal for incorporating the beauty of metal into a space. Just keep in mind that if you need two side tables, they should be made of the same metal. You can, however, mix them with other metals in the room.
- If you have a lot of squares and rectangles in the room, round side tables will soften the look.
- However, mix wood and glass. If you're using two tables, make sure they're the same height. This will give a room a lovely warm and organic feel that is visually appealing.
- You can also mix shapes. Pair a round table with a rectangle table made of the same material. Just make sure they're the same height.
- End tables are a great way to add personality, an unexpected element, and originality to your room! Display your personal style with some unique side tables!
NON TRADITIONAL END TABLES
I adore unconventional end tables. Consider using a bar cart as an end table. You have a great space with a shelf if you turn it with the short side showing!
Also, instead of a traditional end table, try adding a small table to the side of a sofa if space allows.
Alternatively, use a large basket as an end table to add a lot of texture to a room.
Be inventive! Follow good interior design rules, but don't be afraid to deviate from them to add personality and functionality to your space!
